Pigmentation
+ Dark Spots
What is pigmentation and what causes it?
Pigmentation refers to the appearance of dark patches on the skin, caused by the overproduction of melanin, the pigment that gives skin its colour. This excess melanin is produced by melanocytes—skin cells responsible for pigmentation. Sun exposure and hormonal changes are the primary triggers for increased melanin production, leading to uneven skin tone and hyperpigmentation.
The best way to prevent pigmentation is by using sunscreen daily. Sunscreen acts as a protective barrier against harmful UV rays, helping to prevent the formation of dark spots. For optimal skin protection, sunscreen should be worn every day, year-round, from January to December, regardless of the weather.
