How to treat facial redness, rosacea and spider veins

Redness in the skin can come in many forms and be caused by many different factors. The most common triggers for facial redness include but are not limited to; spicy food, poor quality skincare, sun exposure, stress, medications, and improper use of products.

First let's cover what rosacea, redness and spider veins are.

Rosacea: Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that affects over three million Canadians. Central face is the most commonly affected area.

The first sign may be intermittent redness or blushing. Over time, the redness may become persistent and more visible. The most common sites for symptoms are the cheeks, nose, chin and forehead. Bumps, tiny pus-filled pimples and enlarged blood vessels can also appear, giving skin a rough, uneven appearance. Rosacea symptoms can vary from one person to another and severity is unpredictable. There is no known cure, but it can be managed with appropriate treatment and lifestyle changes.

Spider veins: Spider veins are characterized as thin blue, purple or red blood vessels that are visible on the skin. Spider veins occur when blood pools in veins near the surface of the skin. They can be caused by genetics, obesity, trauma, and fluctuations in hormone levels. In many cases, the exact cause is not known. They tend to become more numerous with age, and are common among people over 30 and in pregnant women.

How do we treat redness at Prestige Laser Studio?

Facial redness: At our clinic our favourite service to help reduce redness is a treatment called Facial Flushing. Using our laser, heat from wavelengths of light collapse the visible, tiny red blood vessels without damaging any of the surrounding tissue.

After the 1st treatment you will see visible results although we recommend our clients 3-5 sessions combined with a suitable medical grade skincare routine to achieve the best results!

Spider veins: Using our laser we target the pigment (hemoglobin) in the vein/capillary and destroy the unwanted vein using heat and light from the laser while preserving the surrounding tissue to avoid unwanted damage. The body later reabsorbs these treated vessels and they begin to disappear.

Rosacea: Rosacea is a chronic condition that unfortunately cannot be cured. However we are able to control and prevent more redness from forming on the skin by providing a proper skincare regimen and maintaining scheduled treatments in the clinic.

Medical Grade skincare is key to maintain your skin at home in-between treatments. The products we recommend for redness include:

ZO Skin Normalizing System

ZO Skin Health Skin Normalizing System: The ZO®Skin Normalizing System is a complete selection of products for red, sensitized skin. This system features Rozatrol®, a multi-modal serum for red, sensitized skin.

ZO Skin Health Rozatrol serum: Serum for red, sensitized skin that works to reduce excess

surface oil. Exfoliating properties provide ultra-mild exfoliation to encourage cellular turnover and reduce the signs of premature aging.
