LASER SPIDER VEIN REMOVAL

Updated: Feb 9, 2022

What are spider veins?

Spider veins are small damaged vessels that appear when blood pools in veins near the surface of the skin. They can be caused by obesity, hereditary, trauma, and fluctuations in hormone levels. Oftentimes diffused redness can be found in the surrounding area. Luckily at Prestige Laser Studio we are able to treat them both!

How laser spider vein removal works:

Using our Clarity laser we target the pigment (hemoglobin) in the vein/capillary and destroy the unwanted vein using heat and light from the laser while preserving the surrounding tissue to avoid unwanted damage. The body later reabsorbs these treated vessels and they begin to disappear. For overall diffused redness, we slowly and comfortably heat up the skin allowing the heat to coagulate the redness we see on the surface. Over a series of treatments, this will result in a reduction of overall redness.

How many treatments will I need and is it uncomfortable?

Depending on your skin type, the depth and size of your broken capillaries will determine how many sessions you will need to remove them. However, We suggest 3-5 sessions of spider vein removal and redness reduction. This may vary slightly from person to person. It’s important to remember rosacea is not a curable condition so maintenance treatments are required after your initial series.

Spider vein removal causes some discomfort. When the energy is delivered, you might feel a bit of a spike of heat or a pinch in the treated area. This discomfort won’t last long though.

Overall redness reduction is comfortable. The skin slowly heats up and feels warm, but there shouldn’t be any discomfort.

What should I be aware of before and after the treatment?

After spider vein removal, vessels may appear darker and the treated area may be red. Bruising may occur, however this discolouration is only temporary. It is important to avoid heat and strenuous exercise. We advise that you avoid or limit yourself to stimulants such as caffeine and alcohol for 5-7 days. Basically anything that will push the blood through the treated vessel should be avoided. The sun, including sunless tanning beds must be avoided for a minimum 72 hours post treatment. The use of sunscreen is recommended on any treated areas that are exposed to the sun.

Some topical skin care products need to be avoided prior to treatment and certain medications are contraindications for treatment. To prevent bruising, avoiding medications, such as Advil and Tylenol is beneficial. Our experienced technicians will conduct a complimentary consultation to determine whether or not you are a good candidate for these treatments and ensure you’re properly prepared for your session.
